Difference Between a Scullery and a Butler's Pantry - and Why Have Either?

And growing confusion about the difference between the two.

In practice, the terms scullery and butler’s pantry are often used interchangeably. They both refer to a space that is used as a mini-kitchen of sorts. A kind of hideaway for the messy side of kitchen use that you don't want to sully your beautiful open-plan main kitchen. That's one the reasons they're coming back into vogue now.

If you're a fan of Downton Abbey or Bridgerton, you may already know the difference between a scullery and a butler's pantry, but if not, it turns out that the difference is largely historical, according to this article from the Interior Design Network.
