After and Before Renovation photos

After and before: 5 renovations that will inspire you

We like to put the After photo first because, let’s face it, the Before photo is usually downright depressing. If that’s how you’re feeling about your home – depressed – here are a handful of inspirational renovations that prove that miracles can happen.

Apartment Loft Renovation

OK, put your hand over your right eye. Isn’t that a nice corner kitchen with off-white white walls and eye-level cabinetry to provide a feeling of space? Now take away your hand. See what a transformation you can make, no matter how ghastly your old kitchen may be!

Now we come to the living room . If you’ve been peeking, you’ll see that this room has been lightened up by the addition of a skylight and the fireplace has been turned into a feature rather than an eyesore.

Country house renovation

The beauty of this 100-year-old country house was that under the mass of “improvements” made over the past century, the original features of the house were still largely intact. This renovation was sympathetic to the authentic character of the house, even using original wood panelling salvaged from a demolished wall on the back of the kitchen cabinets.

The dark wood panelling in the living room was retained, except for a protective coat of polyurethane. As in the kitchen, painting the floor and ceiling white helped to lighten the room, and the hideous fan-lights were replaced by antique fixtures more in keeping with the house’s character.

Suburban home renovation

We can’t understand why anyone in their right mind would have wanted to remove that gorgeous green carpet from their bedroom, but this homeowner did – and the results are stunning.

With a little freshening up, this kitchen has been transformed from a cold, dark place to a warm, bright space that invites you to spend time in it.

Deck transformed into outdoor room

Now that summer’s officially here, the owners of this home will be able to make the most of the new outdoor room they built to replace the barren open deck they once hardly used.
